High School Teacher Gradebook Requirements

EECHS teachers will enter a minimum of two grades per week into PowerTeacher Pro.  Assignments should be clearly named using the title of the assignment so that students can accurately identify.  No one assignment should be weighted more than 40% and it is recommended that teachers plan for at least 1-2 summative assessments per cycle.

Grades should be provided to students and entered into PowerSchool in a timely manner (i.e., within 3 days of submission). A minimum of two (2) grades should be recorded each week and Tests/Projects/Quizzes which may carry a heavier weight should be offered at least twice in a grading cycle so that students have ample opportunity to show mastery of content. Appraisers will assist by monitoring PowerSchool for compliance with the grading policy.

Late Policy

Students who are absent shall be provided with that number of extra days to complete an assignment (for example, if a student misses 2 days of class, they have 2 days to make up their assignment before it is counted late).  The recommended late grade reduction is 20 points off per day late.  Teachers are welcome to be more lenient than this policy if a student presents extenuating circumstances.

Prerequisites

Many classes have prerequisites which must be satisfied before a student can be enrolled. For example, students must pass Algebra 1 before being enrolled in any other math course or chemistry. If a student has no credit in a prerequisite course through non mastery or because of an NG, he/she must recover the credit before moving on to the next course. Failure to make up the credit could result in delayed graduation.

Final Exams

A final examination for the fall semester will be required in all state and local credit courses, including PE, Advocacy and electives. During the spring semester, exemptions from final exams may be earned if a student meets all the following criteria:

• 85 average or better in the course

• Has no more than 3 absences for their semester attendance
