Early College High Schools (ECHS) are innovative high schools that allow students an opportunity to earn a high school diploma AND 60 college credit hours from Houston City College (HCC). Located on the east side of downtown Houston, we offer only advanced or dual credit classes in addition to a variety of clubs and sports in a small school setting.

Apply now for an opportunity for acceptance into our program. We are looking for students who have a desire to accelerate their career by taking college classes in high school, earning an associate’s degree, and ultimately attending a four-year university.

School Choice Application Timeline

Phase One School Choice Application Opens  12/9/2025

Phase One School Choice Application is Due  2/11/2026 

School Choice Lottery Notification Date   3/19/2026 

Phase Two School Choice Application Opens   3/19/2026 

Phase One Offer Acceptance Deadline  4/1/2026 

Phase Two Offer Acceptance Deadline  5 Calendar Days from Offer date 

Phase Two Application Closes  One week before school opens 

Phase I: Lottery – Parents rank options and apply. HISD runs a lottery to determine which students get a seat. Students who do not receive a seat are waitlisted at all schools ranked higher than the seat they were offered. 

Phase II: Space Available - Parents may add themselves to existing waitlists established during Phase I. *Current HISD students can no longer apply once this phase closes.  

Students may still be offered a seat at a campus if space opens up until the end of Phase 2. At the end of this phase, waitlists are retired.
